Sita Primadevi, a researcher at the World Resources Institute Indonesia, highlights the lack of transparency as a major issue. She emphasizes that the government has not provided any official explanation regarding the funding source, which is a cause for concern. The statement made by President Prabowo Subianto regarding the TFFF was also not specific, leading to further uncertainty.
Primadevi explains that Indonesia's role in the funding structure is as a junior capital sponsor, which carries the highest risk but also the potential for the highest returns. This position is similar to Brazil's contribution, which is also $1 billion. However, the lack of detailed information about the funding source and operational mechanisms has sparked doubts among experts.
Despite the political support from President Prabowo, experts stress the importance of transparency. Hashim Djojohadikusumo, Indonesia's Special Envoy for Climate and Energy, reassures that the government is committed to the initiative, but the need for clear communication and disclosure of funding details is crucial for a credible global effort.
The TFFF aims to raise $25 billion in public funds, which will catalyze up to $100 billion in private investment, resulting in a total managed fund of approximately $125 billion. The fund is projected to generate annual returns of $3-4 billion, which will be distributed to participating tropical forest countries.
